The Nordschleife ("Northern Loop") is one of the longest race tracks in the world. It is legally classified as a desrestricted one-way toll road in German law, meaning it is often open to the public for recreational motoring. Typically this is on the weekends on what are called "Touristenfahren" - tourist drive days. This area is where you leave the paddock and ticketing area and actually enter the Nordschleife. Direction of travel on the circuit is clockwise.
