Bulawayo, the City of Kings, is Zimbabwe’s second largest city and is steeped in the colonial history of the country and the Ndebele people.

Founded in 1872 by King Mzilikazi, the first leader of the Ndebele nation, as Kwa Bulawayo, the city is within easy reach of Matopos National Park, where he is buried, as is Cecil John Rhodes.

A World Heritage Site, unusually qualifying in all four categories – cultural, historical, archaeological, and environmental – the Park is home to a broad variety of wild game and boasts unique rock formations. It is a must for visitors to the city, whether they are on business or enjoying a holiday.

Holiday Inn Bulawayo is located a short drive from the city centre, close to Ascot Race Course and an excellent 18-hole golf course.

Squash and tennis courts, which are built to international standards, are located on site as is a swimming pool set in well-kept gardens and overlooked by a large veranda.

In keeping with the city’s wide roads and expansive feel, Holiday Inn Bulawayo is spacious and comfortable with conference and functions rooms catering for groups of up to 300 people. A well-equipped and staffed Business Centre is put to good use by frequent business guests from neighbouring South Africa and Botswana for meetings with their counterparts from Harare.

Its 91 standard rooms, 31 business plus rooms, 31 executive rooms and 4 suites have all modern amenities including air conditioning and ensure that “great sleep”, one of the four hallmarks of the Holiday Inn brand.

The other three, “a great breakfast”, “a rewarding stay”, and a “can-do friendly staff”, are more than met by a staff complement which runs the hotel as if it were their own home. The warmth of the welcome guests receive is extended throughout their stay, as if they really were in someone’s home.

The Pumulani Restaurant provides that “great breakfast” as well as lunch and dinner in a relaxed but efficient atmosphere. The buffet-style service, incorporating a wide range of local and western dishes, is complemented by the friendly and attentive restaurant staff.

The Arizona Spur, as the name suggests, is ranch-house style with char-grilled steaks a speciality of this full-service restaurant.

The well-appointed and well-stocked KoBulawayo cocktail bar is situated near the reception area and restaurants and will provide everything guests need from that cold, refreshing lager after a long drive, to superlative late-night cocktails.

But it is The Terrace overlooking the pool that is a favoured spot of many guests. Used for informal business meetings or relaxing after a swim, attentive staff provide a first-rate food and drinks service to this popular area.

Holiday Inn Bulawayo gives its guests not only a great welcome and world-class service but, due to its popularity with local residents, an opportunity to meet them and enjoy the cultural heritage and fascinating history of the City of Kings.
