Makinson Island

A 132-acre island located in the middle of Lake Tohopekaliga. The island use to have an exotic animal attraction that included a caged lion, llamas, peacocks, alligators and goats. Most of the animals were sold but there are still a few goats roaming free as well as wild hogs, deer, raccoons, armadillos and other wildlife.

There's a 1.7 mile loop trail that goes around the perimeter of the island. Primitive camping is available by permit only. Contact the Osceola County Parks & Recreation Department a minimum of one week in advance to apply for the permit.
