Responsible for air surveillance in the southern part of France and approaching routes. The on duty personnel are also key elements in the general armed forces alerting role and in the general radioactivity alerting role!
CRC operating Système de Traitement et de Représentation des Informations de Défense Aérienne (STRIDA) a surveillance system based on detection, threatlevel visualizing and communication.
Detection: by means of the 3 dimensional PALMIER and 2 dimensional 23 cm radars ant other miloitary and civil radars in its zone. The Palmier and 23 cm radars are fully compatible with the E3F Sentry and E2C Hawkeye airborne radars.
Threatlevel judgement: by means of electronic and manual calculation.
Visualization: by means of the VISU IV radar consoles in the opsroom.
Communication: by means of several secure comms and phones (METEOR, ETEC, Socrate and MTBA) for top-down and bottom-up warning sequences.
Security: the base security unit is the Escadron de Protection (force protection sqn) 1G.943 with an average strength of 1 CO; 15 NCO's and 56 enlisted including 2 NCO's and 12 enlisted doghandlers.
Status: pending. (might be deactivated in 2012 because of budget cuts)
