During the Great Depression, this was a CCC Camp, for which the federal government leased the property from the private owner.

During the 1950s and early 60s, a small community lived in some of the CCC barracks, and Modoc National Forest leased other barracks for use as the Little Meadows Ranger Station.

After a dispute between a member of the community and a National Forest official in 1964, the official had a new, official-looking, but illegal "brass cap" installed about a mile away, moving property lines about 700 feet west and 200 feet north, placing the private property on a steep and unstable slope, and claiming the entire community on National Forest property. The National Forest then evicted the community, forcing the residents to move what they could, and then bulldozed the historical Little Meadows CCC Camp as if it were nothing more than a squatter's camp. (See Juniper Acres, about a mile to the west, for further information.)

From that time, until an official survey was made in 1984, Little Meadows was designated as an unimproved campground. Since 1984, it has once again been recognized as private property, and a single home has been built there.
