Botany was established as an independent department already in 1882 with its own professorship at Stockholm University, which at that time was called Stockholms Högskola. The department’s current localities, situated in Lilla Frescati, were inaugurated in 1964 and underwent an extensive renovation in 1994. The department has totally approximately 100 employees and guest researchers.
