Montana Holdings Ltd., the Nassau-based development company of Rum Cay Resort Marina, has selected RockResorts to manage the resort operations on the $700 million, 870-acre multi-use luxury resort / marina development on Rum Cay. RockResorts, a luxury hotel company headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vail Resorts, Inc. Phase One, which began in the summer of 2006, will consist of an 80-slip Blue Flag marina, the Port Santa Maria Marina Village, and a variety of residential offerings from ocean estates to ridge villas. Phase Two will include the RockResort hotel & spa, additional residences, and private membership clubs. Phase three will complete the resort development and will include additional residences and other amenities. Work on the much-touted $700 million Rum Cay Resort Marina supposedly being developed by Montana Holdings on remote Rum Cay in the southern Bahamas has stalled completely, leaving a gaping hole in the island’s economy, and leading to migration away from home once again for many who had returned in anticipation of work. • The Montana Project has wheels with new financing. This is a great thing for everyone on Rum Cay. The project was never 700 million but 250 million is closer. The Sumner Point Marina is gearing up for the season bginging a more prosperity to the Island. Rum Cay will grow economically while the rest of the World still has floundering economies.
