Manitoba Junction was a village in Highland Grove Township, section 28. It has an estimated population was 10. The settlement was originally inhabited in 1907 under the name Summit. It remained under that name until May, 1909 when it was renamed Manitoba Junction. It was essentially the relocated village of Winnipeg Junction one mile south, which was abandoned after the railroad moved to its present route in 1910. Most of the businesses and residents from Winnipeg Junction moved to Manitoba Junction to follow the railroad. It had a station of the Northern Pacific Railroad, two general stores, two restaurants, two hotels, a blacksmith shop, a saloon, a jail, a church, and a school. With the progress of railroad technology no longer requiring stations every few miles, small depot towns like Manitoba Junction eventually faded.
