The Hellman Building was designated a Historic Cultural Landmark (HCM #729) in 2002.
Constructed in 1902 by architect Alfred F. Rosenheim, the building was built on the site of Herman W. Hellman's house. It has since been converted to lofts. Home of Rocket Pizza, Lost Souls Cafe, Warzung.
The Hellman and Continental Buildings were the first major structures to anchor the Spring Street Financial District. The H.W. Hellman Building, now known as Banco Popular, is an eight-story brick and concrete structure with a steel-skeleton frame.
When it was built, it was the largest steelframe building on Los Angeles.
Rosenberg moved to Los Angeles in February 1903 to personally oversee the construction of the Hellman Building, until it's completion in November 1904.

Above picture (photographer unknown) shows the new Hellman Building circa 1905.
