The Cabot Tower stands on the site of a medieval chapel which may have belonged to St James' Priory. During the 16th century the chapel was replaced by a windmill.
The tower was designed by the Bristol architect William Venn Gough and opened for public by the Marquess of Dufferin and Ava on the 6th September 1898 to commemorate the fourth centenary of the discovery of the continent of North America by John Cabot who sailed his ship Matthew from the Bristol port.
This Neo Gothic tower is grade II listed building.
