Sucat is the northern-most barangay in Muntinlupa. “Sucat” has been always said to be in the city of Parañaque, but it’s not. Parañaque has no such barangay as Sucat. People had thought Sucat is in Parañaque since as you can see in SLEX, if you’re in south bound going to Alabang, Sucat exit is pointed at the direction where Parañaque is. This is because Sucat exit lies at the boundary of the two cities. Another thing is the former “Sucat road”. Whenever people pass through the Sucat road, they thought it was in “Sucat” respectively but it’s not, it’s just the road and not the actual “place”; also, SM Sucat was named like that because it’s ahead of the former Sucat road, hence, SM Sucat should be name as SM San Dionisio since it is situated in Barangay San Dionisio in Parañaque and not in Barangay Sucat in Muntinlupa city. Consequently, Sucat road in Parañaque was replaced by Dr. Santos Avenue due to confusion.

Barangay Sucat is geographically located on a flat higher plain along the edge of Laguna de Bay (Lawa ng Laguna). Bounded on the North by Barangay Bagumbayan, Taguig City, on the South by Barangay Buli and Cupang, and on the East by Parañaque City and Las Piñas City.

There is no exact date as to when the community of Sucat was established. Records show that it exist as an old community since the Spanish regime and among the earliest families that lived were the Lopena’s, Nofuente’s, Sales, Ponsones, Lorica’s, Molera’s, Santos and Rongavilla’s.

Sucat got its name from the vernacular word “SUKAT” which means “measurement”. Prior to its establishment during the Spanish era, the community was measured several times by the Posadas family when Don Juan Posadas was in power being the then mayor of Maynilad, now City of Manila, who at that time had a very close connection with the Spanish Government Officials. Don Juan Posadas was able to acquire all the land he wanted to measure in the entire community. He was able to build a mansion house called “Hacienda Rosario” and named after his wife Rosario. The neighboring area of said hacienda was divided into three (3) section namely: Ibaba, Ilaya and Daang Hari.

During the Spanish occupation, a battle also took place in this small community of Sucat between the forces of the Spaniards and the Americans. Most of the residents went to the nearby places of Laguna, Parañaque, Bulacan and Cavite. When the U.S won said battle, all the residents returned to Sucat.

In 1929, an agrarian conflict between the residents of Sucat and Don Juan Posadas ensued when the latter declared that he is the owner of the entire community and the pioneer residents as tenants only. Because of his connection with the Spanish Government, he was able to secure all the legality of the documents and demanded that the tenants should pay the rentals to the land they occupied. The court decided in favor of the Posadas.

After several years following its progress, the community was named Barrio Sucat. A railway bound for south and its station was constructed in 1906; the first means of transportation going to the nearby town was through a horse, carabao and “kalesa”; the first school class was established in 1913, and seven (7) years later the first elementary school, where Sucat Elementary is now situated was constructed in 1913. In 1920, the road made up of gravel and sand from Pasig going to Taguig up to Muntinlupa (such as the barrios of Buli, Cupang, Alabang, Bayanan and Putatan) was opened. In 1937, a Long Distance Telephone Company with a Radio Station, where Patio Homes and Corinthian Village is now situated, was constructed by the American. During that time, a person by the name Don Mariano San Pedro y Esteban came out and claimed ownership of Barrio Sucat.

During the Japanese occupation in 1944, the railroad station and the Hacienda Rosario was bombed and Pedro Diaz was the appointed mayor. A guerilla movement headed by Baldomero “Bandong” Viñalon and Captain Leandro N. Lonzame was organized and many members of this movement were killed and executed. Records show that during the Japanese era, a garrisons/camp was established on the site of the bombed railway station and another was built on the higher ground of Sucat where the Miraculous Medal of Posadas now lies.

In 1964, the road from Pateros going all throughout to Alabang was asphalted through the funds of then Governor Isidro Rodriguez when Muntinlupa was still in the Province of Rizal.

Kuya Rene’s vision is to make Barangay Sucat as the tourism frontier of Muntinlupa City considering that it is situated in the boundaries of Parañaque, Taguig, Las Piñas, and is only a 10 minutes drive from Makati and Pasay City. With Muntinlupa’s upscale market, such as Ayala Alabang Village, Hillsborough, Alabang Hills, Tribeca Residences, Posadas Village, Brittany Bay and other similar villages and condos of Sucat’s neighboring cities, it can generate jobs for the people of Barangay Sucat and be a lucrative investment area for the entrepreneur of the City.

Last 2009, Chairman So was unanimously elected as President of the Association of Barangay Captains, making him as one of the sectoral representative to the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

  • me and my friends always there in Don Juan Bayview Subd.
  • Correction, the railroad station (including the line from Paco to Muntinlupa) was opened in 1908, not 1906.
  • it is said there that it was ''constructed'' in 1906.
