Baha'i House of Worship

The Baha'i House of Worship in Wilmette, IL.
One of only seven in the world, the Baha'i House of Worship for the North American continent was dedicated in 1953 after more than 30 years of construction. In April 2007 it was named one of the Seven Wonders of Illinois.

The temple is currently undergoing renovations but is still open to the public every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Actually, the National Baha'i Center is in Evanston; the local Chicago Baha'i Center is in Chicago. The Baha'i House of Worship in Wilmette -- recently voted first among the Seven Wonders of Illinois -- is the oldest Baha'i House of Worship standing in the world. It is a gift from the Baha'is of the world to all the people of North America; & all people of any Faith -- or no particular Faith -- are invited to come & use this serene setting for personal prayer & meditation. The other continental Houses of Worship are in Australia, Chile (under construction), Germany, India, Panama, Uganda, & Western Samoa (whose late king was Baha'i).

This place is definitely worth a visit. The photos don't do it justice.
