Historic Dempsey D. Butler Cemetery (Camden, New Jersey)

Historic Butler Cemetery located at the corner of Ferry Ave and Charles St.
in Camden NJ and is the final resting place of prominent Businessman and Real
Estate Entrepreneur DEMPSEY D. BUTLER, DOB 1820 - DOD 1900 and wife, ANNA ELIZA,
DOB UKN - DOD 1867.

His legacy includes Philanthropist, Abolitionist, Grand Master for the New Jersey State Chapter of Prince Hall Masons and establisher of UAME Churches. In addition to real estate, Mr. Butler owned and operated a General Store on Kaighn Ave in Camden City and Butler Hotel, located in Atlantic City NJ. By the time of his death,January 1900, Mr. Butler was noted as the richest African American in the State of New Jersey.
