Vettathukavala is only 10 kilometers from Kottayam and is the central part of Ericad division of Puthuppally. The name means Vettathu Junction. Vettathu is the family name of one of the oldest residents of this area. The road to Meenadom joins the Kottayam-Kozhencherry State Highway at Vettathukavala.
