Built in 1927, the Green Lawn Abbey was built of Ohio limestone and Italian marble. It was the largest and finest mausoleum in Columbus with enough space for 654 interments.

World-famous Howard Thurston the Magician, five-time Columbus Mayor George Karb and members of the Lewis Sells circus family are entombed within.

Once the most exclusive place to be buried in Columbus, the Abbey had fallen into neglect by the mid-2000s. After several notable incidents of vandalism and wanton destruction, a valiant preservation effort has been launched to try and restore some of the building's dignity and provide a suitable resting place for its permanent residents.
