This excellent training centre for firefighters was established in 1999 as a joint venture between the City of Salmon Arm and Columbia Shuswap Regional District. The Fire Training Centre provides special hands-on training, new recruit training and course certification. The 3-acre facility has:
> a training building
> flammable liquid trays, similating fires fueled by natural gas
> a 3-storey Burn Building which simulates a single-family dwelling and can also simulate a structural fire with a large amount of smoke and no flame,
> various props--vehicles, broken gas meter, propane tank, dumpster--that provide live practical experience, and
> a fire truck pump test pit to monitor the condition and performance of all Fire Department apparatuses.
