York, Pennsylvania

The City of York, Pennsylvania - named for York, England. The Continental Congress approved the Articles of Confederation on November 15, 1777 in session in York, earning York the nickname "The First Capital of the United States," since the Articles established the term "The United States of America".

Also known as the White Rose city, reminiscent of the "War of the Roses" in England. Lancaster, PA is the Red Rose city.

  • York is also famous for York Peppermint Patties, York Barbell Co. and the Weight Lifting Hall of Fame (the big rotating barbell guy you can see from I-83), York airconditioners, and for the Harley-Davidson plant present here. If you are ever here on Christmas, listen for the Steam Whistle playing Christmas carols, one of the most eerily haunting yet beautiful sounds I have ever heard.
