The holy place of Sitamarhi is situated almost midway from Allahabad and Varanasi, The two cities of religious importance. Jangiganj and Bhiti are situated on the GT Road (National Highway-2, also known as Sher Shah Suri Marg) from where roads lead to Sitamarhi. It is 13 Kms from Jangiganj and just 7 Kms from Bhiti. One can get bus or taxi from Gopiganj, an important town between Allahabad and Varanasi.
According to Ramayana Maa(mother) Sita went under earth from where King Janak found the boon-like Goddess Mata Sita(she (Maa Sita was found under earth while King Janak was ploughing the field in order to perform a ritual for rain as there was drought)). It is said that this temple is the place where Mata Sita went into the earth when she willed it; when she was living with Saint Walmiki in the forest of Sitamarhi. It was Saint Walmiki who wrote Ramayana. According to Ramayana when Lord Rama came to Maa Sita (her wife) to ask Her to come with Him.. Maa Sita said with folded palm that She served with her all efforts and love and it was time to end this human life(note human life because they were God and Goddess) after She asked Her mother (the earth) to take Her into her lap. She left behind Her two sons Lov and Kush whom Lord Rama took to the Great Ayodhya empire.

  • I am from Tamilnadu. While driving from Gaya to Prayag (Allahabad), car driver mentioned about this place. On the way back from Prayag to Kashi (Varanasi), we had time and mom said let's visit Sitamarhi. The 10 km road was bad and I was cursing my mom on the way to Sitamarhi. Once we reached the spot everything changed though. I could feel the energy and completely mesmerized by that place. Tall Hanuman, beautiful temple for Sita Mata in the middle of the lake, green lawns and the fountain flowing from Shiva's head made me to thank my mother for taking us there. There is a hotel and restaurant near the temple. The satvic food at that place was the best I have eaten in the whole trip and the price was very reasonable. We did not stay, but asked for the room prices - it was Rs 1200 or Rs 1800 (Mar 2014) which are very reasonable too. Anyone who visits Kasi or Prayag needs to visit this place. The only thing that stops me from recommending this place for stay instead of Kasi/Prayag is the road(s) from highway to Sitamarhi. Please do visit this place and soak yourself in the spiritual energy at this place.

  • We went to Varanasi on the 31st of May 2015. On the 3rd of June we went to Prayaga and on the return journey we went to Sitamarhi. The road was uncomfortable in places but on the whole it was a pleasant journey. The Sita temple was an ocean of peace. The statue of Sita in the entrance and the statue of the Sita at the bottom storey was really was so lifelike and entrancing.Recommend visiting this temple

  • Sorry, that is different restaurant nearby. Not the one inside the temple. I am sorry. May be if you call them, they will be able to give the actual hotel number. There is a website http://www.sitasamahittemple.in/ that belongs to the temple. I could not find a phone number though.
