This temple is at least 700 years old and the deity was made from a single granite block used as a door at the vault of the then Maharaja of Burdwan. It was a myth that the stone when thrown into the river Kaushiki did not submerge but was taken away by the great force of water and touched the shore nearest to the site of the present temple. Still now the deity was worshipped with the same fervent as it was done in those bygone days.
