Neiman Marcus Downtown Flagship

USA / Texas / Dallas / Main Street, 1618
store / shop, office building, interesting place, historical building, 1914_construction

The Neiman Marcus Building is a historic commercial structure located in the Main Street District in downtown Dallas, Texas (USA). The structure was designed in 1914 by Green, LaRoche & Dahl with an interior by Robsjohn-Gibbings. In 1954, an escalator was added to a design by Eleanor LeMaire Associates who also designed the Zodiac Room Restaurant.

The building serves as the corporate headquarters and flagship store of Neiman Marcus. It is the last of the original department stores still serving downtown Dallas and is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.

On December 19, 1964, the building caught fire in the costliest blaze in the city's history, destroying merchandise, art objects, and antique furniture worth an estimated $5-10 million. Remarkably, the building was not destroyed, and it reopened just 27 days later.
