Established in 1951 as Rossini Park, the name of the park was changed after the Alpha Kai Omega (AKO) Fraternity became involved in the development of an athletic building on the site.

In 1961 the first specifically designed community centre in Windsor was constructed at 1470 Alice Street. The centre, renamed the Constable John Atkinson Memorial Community Centre in 2007 to honour fallen police officer John Atkinson, features a gymnasium with a stage, a multi purpose room, a kitchen and a pre-school room.

The park itself contains a spray pad featuring 22 different water toys programmed by computer for a sequence of water fun, a football field, a soccer field, baseball diamonds, play ground equipment and a small sledding hill.
