The Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre was established by the Tamil Nadu government as an autonomous body in 1983 under the ministry of education for the benefit of the common man and the younger generation.

Some of the aims and objectives of this science centre are:

(i) To introduce and spread science and technology among the rural people.

(ii) To supplement the formal education imparted to the students.

(iii) To aid the teachers in training the students better and unprove the quality of school education

(iv) To provide research facilities, organize exhibitions, science campus and workshops for students and teachers.

This centre has several galleries such as the Transport gallery, Energy gallery, material science gallery, Life science gallery, electronics and communication gallery, innovation gallery and physical science gallery. These galleries have several interesting interactive exhibits, which provides a gateway to learn science very effectively
