This school was built in the '30ties and derives its name from the building on Nieuwe Batavierstraat 16, which was demolished to make place for this school. The gable stone of this building, showing a white elephant and a palmtree, has been restored and replaced. Another gable stone, showing an owl, comes from a building that was on Uilenburgerstraat 106.
