Kundu Bungalow area. This area used to be an orchard - mainly mango, jack, litchi, star-fruit, elephant apple etc. The entire place used to be contracted out to a chap called Mewa Lal by the Kundu's estate. Most of this ground never saw the sun...

Bungalows No. 3,10,15-18,31 and 32 were single, deluxe types. The others were doubles. In 1962, the occupancy was something like this:

Retd District Magistrate Mr N G Roy was in No 15.
Excise Dept Office was No 16.
Duttas of Hatkhola had No 17.
Rev Murmu of the local Methodist Church was in No 22.
Orchard Contractor Mewa Lal had No 23.
Govt Vet Doctor was in No 30.
Kashi Babu was in No 32.
Retd Darjeeling Postmaster Mr Shailen Dasgupta lived in Giri Kutir, just opposite.
Municipal Administrator Mr Ashwini Kumar Chattoraj lived in nearby Mahendra Smriti.
