Birigüi is a Brazilian city of São Paulo. It is located at latitude 21°17'19" South and longitude 50°20'24" West, with an altitude of 406 meters. Total area is 530.651 km². Its population in 2004 was 104,138 inhabitants.

Economy
It is known as the Capital of Children's Footwear in America for being the largest industrial hub in South America specializing in this segment. It has 459 footwear industries and had estimated revenues in 2006 of over 800 million dollars, having produced about 57 million pairs. About 85% of its production is directed at children. Of the total, 11.7% were exported in 2006, reaching more than 70 countries. Birigui industries employ around 18,000 workers, over 60% of jobs in the city.
Other productive sectors of the city are furniture, metal, textiles (clothing), paper (cartons), and chemical graph and draw manpower from neighboring towns. The cultivation of sugar cane is also strong in the region, with significant increase in activity in 2007. The intense concentration of mills and sugar plantations in the region already indicates a change in economic scenario.

Sports
Birigui also stands out in the practice of sports. Football and Biribol are the most popular sports in the city. The football team, the Bandeirante Esporte Clube was founded on March 11, 1923 and had as its first president Jose Troncoso. In 1987 the team played the first division of Campeonato Paulista.
The Biribol was born in the city, invented by Prof. Dario Miguel Pedro, its founder and promoter. Biribol is a water sport that was born from the encouragement and motivation in swimming pools. This sport emerged as an alternative way to use the pools, practice and learning to swim. It is the youngest sport in Brazil, "is the only sport really Brazilian, born and raised inside our borders." It is practiced in a special pool of 4m x 8m x 1.30 (depth) with net, ball and posts of support.
