Frank J Gage HomesteadHomesteaded about 1906 by Frank J Gage, who came from Lincoln County, SD with his brother-in-law William R Bradfield. The entire homestead eventually included approximately 346.47 acres and lies entirely inside the boundaries of what is now the Badlands National Park. William R Bradfield homesteaded the quarter section adjoining the Gage homestead to the immediate West.
The homestead comprised: The South half of the Northwest quarter of Section 1 in Township 3 South of Range 16 East of the Black Hills Prime Meridian, South Dakota. The Northeast quarter of the Northwest quarter of Section 1 in Township 3 South of Range 16 East of the Black Hills Prime Meridian, South Dakota. (Lot 3) The Northwest quarter of the Northwest quarter of Section 1 in Township 3 South of Range 16 East of the Black Hills Prime Meridian, South Dakota. (Lot 4) The above three parcels total 148.56 acres. In a later grant the homestead also included: Lot 2 of Section 6 in Township 3 South of Range 17 East of the Black Hills Prime Meridian, South Dakota, containing 37.91 acres. The Southwest quarter of Section 25 in Township 3 South of Range 16 East of the Black Hills Prime Meridian, South Dakota, containing 160 acres.
