This walkway was cut through the Kitai Gorod wall in 1871 by the architect Aleksandr S. Kaminsky (1829 1897) for the wealthy merchant Sergei Tretyakov (1834-1892) who wanted to gain quick assess from his home in Kitai Gorod to the banks along Okhotny Ryad. The shops along here were rebuilt in 1997 for the 850th anniversary of the founding of Moscow. Today it houses Gucci, Tiffany & Co, Prada, etc
