Jordan River power stationSupplies power to Sooke (?) and the Jordan River area. Watch for the large pipe visible on the hillside to your right just before crossing the bridge into Jordan River.
Tours are offered, if you're interested in that kind of thing. The Jordan River hydroelectric system was originally completed in 1911 and redeveloped in 1971. The current facility consists of three dams, two reservoirs, one headpond, and a tunnel and penstock system that supplies water to the 170 MW powerhouse on the lower Jordan River. It is owned by BC Hydro. The Jordan River powerhouse contains a single 170 MW capacity turbine generator unit. Water is delivered to the powerhouse from Elliott Headpond through a 7.2 km tunnel and penstock. This replaced the old powerhouse and associated tailrace on the east side of the river in 1972.
