In ruins. It was built by General Espartero after defeating the carlists troops in the eraly stages of the battle of Ramales (1839). Its purpose was defending this strategic heights in Los Tornos mountain pass and the royal road to Castile while the general had his troops stationed in Espinosa de los Monteros, Villarcayo and Bercedo and his main base in Medina de Pomar.
