HMP & YOI Norwich is a multi-functional prison, predominantly serving the Courts of Norfolk and Suffolk. The prison has occupied its current site overlooking the city of Norwich since 1887. The site consists of:

Gurney Unit (formerly A wing)
Landings 2, 3 and 4
Boleyn & Constable Units (formerly B & C wings)
Landings 2 & 3
Britten Unit (formerly D wing - Britannia House)
Fry Unit (formerly E wing)
Coleman & Gainsborough Units (formerly F and G wings)
Landings 2 & 3. Sewell Unit (formerly Health Care Centre)
Nelson Unit (formerly L wing)
Mills Unit (formerly M wing)
Crabbe Unit (formerly Segregation Unit)

Accommodation: Majority of single cells, with shared accommodation across the establishment.

Operational Capacity: 824 as of 21st September 2006

Reception Criteria: Normal reception arrangements. HMP & YOI Norwich accepts adult men and young offenders - whether convicted (Category B & Category C) or on remand.
