Unification Park is composed of a Unification Security Pavilion that is a ship-shaped pavilion with display facilities and a Warship Pavilion. The land for the Warship Pavilion was reclaimed from the sea to provide the location for a captured North Korean submarine and decommissioned Naval warship.

In 1996, a North Korean submarine was stranded on the rocks at this spot near Anin. The 26-member North Korean crew escaped from the submarine and attempted to return to the north, leading to a deadly manhunt that lasted over a month. All but one North Korean crew member was killed along with 17 South Korean casualties.

The retired 4,000-ton U.S. warship, ROK Jeonbukham, is a destroyer launched by the United States in 1945 as the USS Everett F. Larson (DD-830), seeing service in the Second World War, the Vietnam War and the Korean War. The warship was given to South Korea as a gift by the Americans in 1972. It defended the Korean territorial waters since it was acquired by South Korea and was honorably decommissioned after the Gulf War in 1999.
