  • Kangra Valley Railway Line Needs Attention print this page January 28, 2011 Share Tweet By: HP News Network Kangra valley railway narrow gauge line, which plays a significant role in the economy of this region, is in a bad shape. Thanks to the apathy of the Indian Railways, which made no efforts in the past 70 years to convert this 120-km long rail track into a broad gauge line. The British had laid down this railway line in 1932, linking all important and religious towns of Kangra and parts of Mandi district. A number of plans were drawn up to convert this narrow gauge line into a broad gauge line, but all remained confined to files. With a manifold increase in the population and the tourist traffic in the Kangra valley, the Railways has failed to come up to the expectations of the local people. Century-old engines and coaches are still plying on this track. Even the authorities could not introduce the regular first-class compartment here. At present, some trains ply on this route daily covering 33 stations and passing through important places like Nurpur, Jawali, Jwalamukhi Road, Kangra, Nagrota Bagwan, Chamunda, Palampur,Panchrukhi , Baijnath and Jogindernagar, which are also major tourists attraction centres of the state. The condition of the rail track between Pathankot and Jogindernagar has gone from bad to worse in the past 10 years, as the Railways authorities have no funds to repair the same. Several small and big bridges are in bad shape. The retaining walls on the tracks have developed major cracks.result in a tragedy anytime. The residential quarters and railway station buildings are also crying for repair. Besides, almost all 33 railway stations of the Kangra valley railway line lack basic facilities like drinking water, cleanliness and waiting rooms for passengers. Patti, Majerhan Railway stations have no room for the passengers to sit. These stations also do not even have a temporary shed/Proper Platform to save the passengers from unpredictable weather. Family quarters of railway employees are on the verge of collapse. No senior officer of the Railways bothers to visit the track. Train of Problems No effort has ever been made to convert this 120-km long rail track into a broad gauge line Century-old engines and coaches are still plying on this track The authorities even could not introduce the regular first-class compartment. The condition of the rail track between Pathankot and Jogindernagar is the worst The retaining walls on the tracks have developed major cracks Residential quarters and railway station buildings are also crying for repair Panchrukhi Railaway Station. There is always heavy traffic jam at Panchrukhi due to Railway Pathak,Northern Railway has to be arrange alternative option in order to avoid traffic jam .Railway station of Panchrukhi lying between Pathankot and Baijnath Paprola (HP) is in dire straits The station and its surroundings are unclean. Suggestions : Indian Railway have to introduce new trains of this track with powerful engine+ beautiful coaches/compartment.. Indian Railway have to given special attention to Kangra Valley. The Kangra valley attracts lakhs of tourists every year. If the rail services are improved and better amenities are provided to the passengers, tourist inflow would rise, which in turn would help in improving the economic condition of the state. It would not only make it convenient for the residents and tourists but also add to the revenue of the Railways.. SATISH SHARMA Village Ladoh Post Panchrukhi Teh Palampur Kangra H.P 176103
  • Traffic jams common at Panchrukhi Dharamsala, August 17 Panchrukhi is a small village located 10 km from Palampur. The village has acquired the name from five roads that join here. These days, just three roads seem to join at the Panchrukhi main crossing. One of these roads leads to Andretta, a village known for its artists and art gallery of Shoba Singh that receives thousands of visitors. However, the crossing is an illustration of poor traffic management. Commuters have to remain stranded on the crossing, in many cases, for more than an hour due to haphazard parking and the absence of traffic cops. The major reason for traffic jams is the parking of buses just near the level crossing. The railway crossing at Panchrukhi is very small and the parking of buses near it blocks the traffic. Interestingly, bus operators keep waiting for passengers near the crossing unmindful of trouble being faced by commuters. To add to the woes, no traffic cop has been deployed there to manage the traffic. In case of traffic jam, it is local people or stranded commuters who try to regulate the traffic to get out of it. In case of the closure of level crossing, the situation turns worse. Parking of vehicles along the narrow road near the level crossing is another reason for traffic jams. Generally, taxi operators park their vehicles along the road. This squeezes the already narrow road to such an extent that even two vehicles cannot cross. The traffic then has to wait till some one finds the taxi driver who parked his vehicle and requests him to clear the road. Locals say traffic on the Panchrukhi crossing has increased manifold over the past few years. The district administration would have to look for a permanent solution to this. Traffic lights at the main crossing can be one of the solutions. However, till cops are posted here to regulate traffic and penalise the violators, the traffic lights might not serve their purpose, they say. They also add that by not allowing any kind of parking at the main junction or near the level crossing could be the only viable solution.
  • Myself is Ajay Sharma. Panchrukhi-andretta is a very charming place. It needs to be developed from the tourist point of view. The road should be widened and local administration should pay more attention for the residents. By installing lighting system (street lights) on this beautiful location will add to its beauty.
  • Its a very nice place in kangra valley. My native village is 5-6 KM away from Andretta. My village jandpur is near the Sungal Tea estate. The Sai University is also nearby our village.Local Administration should pay more attention to develop this area.
  • Development Needed at Ashapuri Mata Temple near by Andretta. Temples in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh are dedicated to village deities. Literally every village has its own deity and every kinship has its own deity too. Mata Ashapuri Temple is one of ancient constructions of Himachal Pardesh, It is a very good temple situated on great height and at a very peaceful area. To make the temple premised more accommodating, the temple pandal /baranda should be extended to cover maximum pilgrims /devotees in temple premises. Government should set up the Dharmsala/Sarai for pilgrims as they used to travel from far off places. There should be proper Water supply and there should be sodium vapor /light etc on the this place. Stairs from road to temple are also required to be repaired and modify to avoid accidents and to look attractive If the temple will come under the government supervision then people will get maximum benefit of its utilities. Although there is a footpath to temple but ropeway is also needed as the temple is located on hill top. If ropeway is built, then it will also attract tourists in future. During these struggling times, people are visiting temples in large numbers to get rid of their sufferings. Same is the case with ASHAPURI MATA temple which is has been accepting the worship from all the nearby villages as well as from the large base of outstation devotees also. So we request you to give kind look on the above issue which will make the lives of mata rani’s devotees for convenient. May Mata rani bless you with all the success & happiness.
