The Only Chavez Ravine Neighborhood NOT Torn Down For Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles, California)

If one looks at the old map of Los Angeles in the 1940's, it is obvious that Solano Avenue, Amador Street, and Casanova Street (as well as Academy Road) were among the many residential streets in the region around Elysian Park, in neighborhoods dating back to the late 1800's/early 1900's

When Dodger Stadium was planned, many neighborhoods were torn down to make room for the parking lot and stadium. Only these few streets survived the demolition.

  • that's because this neighborhood isn't part of Chavez Ravine. The section of the hill west of the stadium was where the Chavez Ravine neighborhoods were located. As you can see, they could have built the stadium and left those neighborhoods alone, but of course that's not what happened. One of LA history's most unfortunate cases of Eminent Domain tyranny.
  • Yeah, I hate that they demolished those magnificent Craftsman homes which once stood in Westwood and thereupon built UCLA. Think of all the minds they've since screwed up.
  • UCLA did not displace any neighborhoods. It was Wolfskill's farm.
