Under the Industrial Schools Act of 1866 the Somersetshire Industrial Home for Boys was founded to accommodate 180 boys at Brougham Hayes on the Lower Bristol road, which had originally been built in 1864 as a barracks. (As the Somersetshire Home for Boys, it was still in existence in 1927, but had evidently closed by 1931.)
In 1960 Bath Technical School moved from Weymouth House ( in the town centre) to Brougham Hayes into the building formerly used by the Domestic Science College.
In September 1970 The City of Bath Technical School closed when it amalgamated with Westhill Boys School (founded in 1956) to become Culverhay Comprehensive School.
Hayesfield School was formed in 1973 when the City of Bath reorganised secondary education by merging grammar schools and secondary modern schools to form comprehensive schools. West Twerton Secondary Modern School and City of Bath Girl's Grammar School were merged to form Hayesfield School.
