  • When Sandwich Town was layed out in 1797, this square was reserved for school and government buildings. Originally it had a military barracks which was burnt by Americans during the war of 1812. Renovations and digs by an Anthropologist discovered British Soldiers who died as a result of their amputations during a skirmish. An Indian woman from a time before European settlement was also found near the river to the rear of this school.
