Rayleigh is a market town in Essex, England located between Chelmsford and Southend-on-Sea. It has a population of around 34,000 people, having expanded rapidly in the 1960s. Notable buildings in the town include its fourteenth century church, a windmill and the motte of a Norman royal castle.

Sports and recreation
Rayleigh has a King George's Field in memorial to King George V, and a newly built leisure centre including a bowling green, squash courts, dance room, gymnasium, tennis courts, football pitches, and a fully licensed bar!

Public Facilities
Rayleigh is predominantly made up of national retailers. Rayleigh's shops include many clothes shops (e.g. Qs, Burtons, Peacoks), bars / pubs (e.g. The Paul Pry, The Crown, The Roebuck), convenience stores (e.g. Woolworths, Martins, Superdrug), and two current supermarkets Somerfield and Sainsburys, as well as this there are some single chain stores such as Byrons, Aubergine and Feathering Your Nest. Rayleigh also accommodates for many cars, with lots of car parks conveniently placed around the town.

Transport
Rayleigh is served by two prominent modes of public transport; bus and train. The bus services are run by Arriva and First and usually terminate at Rayleigh Station. One Railway run Rayleigh's train network with trains every 10 minutes during rush our. These trains either terminate at London Liverpool Street, or Southend Victoria. First Buses also operate a half - hourly service to Stansted Airport, named the X30, this bus only stops at Rayleigh Station though.


Education
Within Rayleigh there are many primary schools (Grove, Wyburns, Our Lady of Ransom, Glebe Infants and Juniors, Edward Francis, and Rayleigh Primary) and 2 Secondary Schools (Sweyne Park, and Fitzwimarc). There are also plans to build a new small Primary school.
