Kincheloe Air Force Base was active during the Cold War. The base was known by various names, including Kinross Municipal Airport, Kinross Army Air Field, Kinross Air Field, Kinross Air Force Auxiliary Field, and Kinross Air Force Base.
This base started as an ADC base, (Air Defense Command/NORAD component base). It hosted at various times; F-51Ds, F-86Ds, F-94Cs, F-89Js, F-102s and lastly F-106s during the Cold War years. It also had a BOMARC
Missile (SAM) squadron (battery of 15) located 17m NW of the airfield. It was deactivated
as an ADC base in 1968 and transferred to SAC then. SAC had a presence at Kincheloe since
