building, place with historical importance
The lot here was originally occupied by a single building with two businesses in it: Tally's New Broadway Theatre and Silverwood's, a men's and boy's clothing store. Tally's later became the Garnett.
The Garnett folded sometime around 1913, and Silverwood's expanded into the former theatre space. The building currently located here was designed for Silverwood's by architects Walker and Eisen and built in 1920. The Silverwood's chain of clothing stores folded in the 1990s.
