Opened in 1845 by the London & North Western Railway. There are weekday hourly Northern Railway services northbound to Manchester Piccadilly and southbound to Stoke-on-Trent with additional trains at peak times. The Sunday service from the station is limited with just five trains each way. CrossCountry and Virgin Trains southbound services to Birmingham New Street and London Euston and northbound services to Manchester Piccadilly run through the station but do not stop. -Adapted from Wikipedia.
