Lough Nahoo


Refuge of Whooper Swans (Cygnus cygnus)from Iceland who winter and feed here in numbers (varying from year to year) approximately from 30 to 80. Arriving at the end of October and departing April. Other notable residents include herons, water hens and duck as well as a few mute swans. The lake is on a divide between acid granitic rock and limestone. It becomes wetland in the summer months with a considerable variety of vegetation after the much of the water drains through underlying limestone.
