Another of George Lucas' ranches, this one developed much later than Skywalker Ranch. The office space finished construction in 2002. The buildings were apparently vacated within a few years though as Lucas consolidated his business operations at the Letterman Digital Arts Center at the Presidio in San Francisco.

This is an exceptional example of Craftsman Style. the interior furnishings include Renee McIntosh, Morris, and Frank Lloyd Wright reproductions. Wright designs include hand fitted carpets plus over 150 lamps hand built by Los Osos Woodworking in California. The walls are lined with Lucas' personal collection of movie posters.

I drove up to the gate and asked if I could get in. The voice said "no." I couldn't find Skywalker Ranch, although it was only a bit up the street. This big building is super-impressive. I wish I could have gotten in there to look around.

The entry doesn't appear to be completely accurate - Big Rock Ranch is now an "official" Lucasfilm campus location and is used as the home for Lucasfilm Animation (e.g., Clone Wars). The buildings are actually quite new. Perhaps "office buildings" refers to buildings that were built and torn down or planned but never built, pending the creation of the LDAC, an SF City welfare project designed to bring Lucasfilm to SFO very, very cheaply (oh yea, George is a very shrewd businessman, make no mistake). ILM, Lucasfilm Corporate, and most of the other LF businesses are now at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in SFO. And yes Skywalker Ranch is just up the road from Big Rock. I wouldn't be surprised if Lucas owned all of the land contiguously. He's bought much of the surrounding acreage in Marin up over the years and owns well over 1,500 acres. If you do some digging you'll find that he owns almost all of the lots surrounding his home in San Anselmo.

Definitely a functioning office space and original reel storage in the northernmost building I hear. Lovely bronze Yoda in the entry gardens. Skywalker and Big Rock ranches are contiguous and George's landholdings include Grady Ranch to the East and another large ranch to the south of Lucas Valley Road that forms the north slope of Loma Alta. He's dedicated large portions of this land as open space and legal hiking trails course through the area connecting Loma Alta to Big Rock Ridge.
