Fort over La Atalaya, a hill on which the village of Laredo lies. Together with Fort San Carlos and the strategic outpost in El Puntal its mission was protecting the bay from sea attacks. Until early XXth century it remained in service, although its first buildings come from the XVIth. It contains a good bunch of ruins from military buildings (batteries, barracks, trenches and arsenals) apart from the walls and other buildings. During the Spanish War of Independence (Iberian War) the french occupying troops called it La Rochelle Fort.
