The Sydney Opera House is an expressionist modern design, with a series of large precast concrete 'shells', each taken from a hemisphere of the same radius, forming the roofs of the structure. The Opera House covers 1.8 hectares (4.5 acres) of land. It is 183 meter (605 feet) long and about 120 meter (388 feet) wide at its widest point. It is supported on 580 concrete piers sunk up to 25 meter below sea level. Its power supply is equivalent for a town of 25,000 people.

  • The opera house still stands out during our first visit to Australia in 1980.We attended a French opera performed in English. Dinner at the Bennelong later introduced us to baramundi fish and barossa wine a great event for a 24th wedding anniversary. We returned to Sydney in 2010 after finally circumnavigating this beautiful land down under.
  • i see that the harbour bridge is more popular than the opera house among wikimapia users
