The Eastern Fort (Al Ain)

United Arab Emirates / Abu Dhabi / al-Ayn / Al Ain
 fortification, interesting place

The Eastern Fort or Al Hosn Fort, or Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Fort, it is adjacent to the Al Ain National Museum. It was built in 1910. Its three corner towers helped defenders protect the fort with flanking fire, and also housed store rooms for wheat and dates. The formal reception rooms or majlis, in which visitors enjoyed their host’s hospitality, contrast with the barasti hut or arish, constructed in the courtyard as an example of the kind of modest accommodation more familiar to an ordinary family.
