Founded 180? by Benjamin Fitzpatrick, a revolutionary war veteran of Scotch-Irish ethnicity. Benjamin Fitzpatrick (or another among his fellow settlers) killed a male deer and put its head on display, generating the town name. Georgia Railroad came through in 1833, making Buckhead a stop. A small Civil War battle was fought here during Sherman's march to the sea in 1864; Confederates lost, Union General Geary ordered destruction of militarily useful materials.
