Nabiac means “the place of the wild fig” and lies between lands once inhabited by the Biripi and Worimi Aboriginal groups. The area was first settled by European Australians in the mid 1800s and first surveyed in 1872. The village named Wollomba was established, but in 1887 new land boundaries were declared and by 1906 the name was changed to Nabiac.
Nabiac has a population of over 600 and services the nearby communities of Wootton, Failford, Rainbow Flat, Dyers Crossing, Krambach and Coolongolook. There are several art and craft galleries in the town, and Nabiac has a hotel, caravan park, cafes, restaurants, a small supermarket and several other stores and a Post Office.
