Oaksterdam is a district on the north end of downtown Oakland, California, where medical cannabis was available for purchase from several businesses. As of 2012, there is only one such business in the area and only four in all of Oakland.
Since the late 1990s when California's Prop 215 passed and legalized medical cannabis, this neighborhood of Oakland has been the home to many medical cannabis dispensaries, the Oakland Cannabis Buyers Co-op (now Patient's ID Center), Oaksterdam University, Bulldog cafe, amongst many others. Many of the original shops have closed up as Oakland later limited the number of sanctioned dispensaries to just four, with a high cost of the required license.
