Speech House Hill Colliery (occasionally aka as Rose in Hand Colliery)

Not a very successful mine , opened and closed thoughout its early years suffering from either money (lack of) or water (too much!) or both. Acquired by the Crawshay family to protect its interest in Foxes Bridge and Lightmoor collieries, retained during both those collieries life for maintenance, ventilation and emergency way out purposes. Site finally closed and demolished/cleared around 1945. Main shaft re-capped approx 2000. The colliery yard and rail sidings are now beautifully landscaped and in use as a Forestry Commission picnic site.

It might be more appropriate to log this under Beechenhurst Lodge ... the name of the Forestry commission site that is here now, rather than a former mine. A mention of the sculpture trail at this site would also be helpful ...
