Mapleford Engine Colliery had a long history of production. Two roads or drifts were driven at a steep angle down into the face of a long disused quarry. In its later years the mine was operated by Dave Harvey a well known freeminer. The site has now been abandoned since approx 1978 and few remains are left although the 2 drifts can be discerned as can the old loading bay and the rusted remains of the coal screens.
