Stonehenge is a Neolithic and Bronze Age megalithic monument located near Amesbury in the English county of Wiltshire, about 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Salisbury. It is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones and is one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world.
The site and its surroundings were added to the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1986 in a co-listing with Aveburyhenge monument, and it is also a legally protected Scheduled Ancient Monument. Stonehenge itself is owned and managed by English Heritage whilst the surrounding download is owned by the National Trust.

  • It's a great place!!! I like it very much... But it's very strange that we can look at it here. I heard that it was a very big sin to photograph it.
  • And several years ago our teacher told us that there was a path to another world inside these stones, but I don't know if it's true or false.
  • it's all good but road near the stonehenge makes it no so mystic
  • i would relly like to go here one day but is it as cool as it seems?(im not going for any mystical crap just great history)
  • @BoB, tourists have to get there somehow!
  • A344 (the road that goes right by Stonehenge) will be closed in May 2013, as part of a major renovation project to the entire site. A new visitor's center is being built more than a mile from and out of sight of Stonehenge.
  • The old visitor's center and car park will be removed altogether, and A344 will be allowed to revert to grass. A tram will bring visitors to the henge from the new visitor's center. For more info, see the web site listed under Visitor Information above.
